Body cam footage shows police officers kicking down door to rescue people from burning building in London

Body cam footage shows the moment police officers kick the door down to rescue people trapped inside a burning building.

In the dramatic video, the officers force their way into the building in Kensington, London, as black smoke billows along a stairwell.

They then gain access to six flats inside and help rescue residents as the fire takes hold.

Six residents and seven police officers suffered smoke inhalation during the incident. They were taken to hospital, but have all been discharged.

Superintendent Jill Horsfall said: “The bravery and professionalism of the Met officers who responded so rapidly to this terrifying fire shows the very best of policing.

“They acted without hesitation to rapidly enter a burning building full of smoke and to save lives.”

The fire began at around 00.15 on Friday. It is being treated as suspicious.

On Sunday, a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He remains in custody.
